Hi to everybody,
i was reading the sites of wikipedia about Live Aid and Live 8 and i was
wondering:
Why didn't DM join Live Aid and Live 8? Weren't they invited by Geldof? Or
didn't they care to be part of the concert? Any ideas?

Bye

No they weren't present. Propably not VIP enough at the time for holy
bob's taste. They could have boosted the musical content of the event
though, remember vividly the fat boys feat. chubby checker - that still
wakes me up at night shivering.

At the time of the first Live Aid, DM were still big, even in Britain! I was
surprised that they weren't included in the single, or the concert. Maybe
there's a personality clash somewhere, or maybe Bob didn't remember them
when he was doing his list of who's who.

This is what Alan had to say (I am reproducing verbatim this quote taken
from the Stripped biography):

"I doubt very much that we would have accepted the invitation, had we
been asked. My personal view is that giving to 'chariddy' should be a
totally private gesture, out of which no personal gain should be made.
Inevitably, nearly all the artists who took part in Live Aid achieved a
considerable rise in record sales and, being the cynic that I am, I
wonder just how much of the profit gained from those sales actually
ended going to Ethiopia."

Hear hear, Allan.

I remember the row at the videoshoot for the feed the world single,
where michael jackson demanded (and got) a reshoot for himself to gain a
more prominent role.

Ok, but this could work for Live Aid (1985), not for Live8 (2005) cause Alan
had left 10 years before
